About the Program

The Erasmus Intensive Programme Standards of Everyday Life in the Middle Ages and in Modern Times is a multidisciplinary teaching based on a course of lectures and seminars, discussions, groupwork, and thematic excursions which will include terrain research in the second and third year of the IP.

The objective of the IP is: to apply and disseminate at an academic level various approaches in dealing with historical, anthropological and ethnological issues; to introduce modern interdisciplinary themes orientated towards the circle of everyday life in different historical epochs, the living standards and the social status of the individual; to emphasize on innovative approaches integrating methodology typical of both anthropology and ethnology, and on the multidisciplinary character of history teaching in the universities as well; to create conditions for active direct contacts and exchange of ideas between students and lecturers from various countries; to realize international collaboration between universities that would help to develop joint projects in the future.

The target groups of the IP are bright students (bachelors and magisters) from disciplines like history, ethnology, cultural tourism, and anthropology, selected according to definite criteria, and also postgraduate students working on problems similar to the subjects of the IP.

Main activities: lectures, seminars, presentations, round table discussions which are aimed at stimulating the free communication and exchange of ideas between the students; work in voluntarily formed groups for the demonstration of traditional dishes, folklore and costumes; thematic excursions which will include short terrain research conducted with the methods of inquiry, interview and purposive talk; various creative activities of the participants.

Expected results: creating a platform for free communication between students and colleagues from the academic communities of different Bulgarian and foreign higher education institutions and establishing traditions in organizing international forums in Bulgaria; forming in the students and doctoral candidates skills of team working, formulating, presenting and defending of a scholarly thesis by setting and solving concrete tasks within the framework of the multisubject themes of the IP; preparation of advertising materials for the purposes of teaching and popularizing of the results of the IP activities; publishing of teaching materials and scholarly research papers (collections of the papers presented at the round table discussions).
